Ocean freight is priced by CBM (cubic meters); air freight and express are billed by volumetric weight. Switch quickly between three modes.

CBM · Cubic Meters
1.00
Cubic Meter
CUFT · Cubic Feet
35.30
Cubic Feet
— Formula Cuft = L×W×H(cm)×Qty×0.0000353
CBM = Cuft ÷ 35.315  ·  1 CBM ≈ 35.315 Cuft
20 ft Container
Loads approx. 26–28 CBM (918–988 cuft)
40 ft Container
Loads approx. 56–58 CBM (1977–2048 cuft)
Note: LCL (less-than-container-load) cargo is generally charged by "revenue ton" — the greater of volume (CBM) and weight (metric tons) is used as the freight basis.

VOLUMETRIC WEIGHT
12.00
kilograms (kg)
— Formula Volumetric weight (kg) = L×W×H (cm) ÷ 6000
Air freight is charged on the greater of actual weight and volumetric weight (Chargeable Weight). Light, bulky cargo is usually billed by volumetric weight.

VOLUMETRIC WEIGHT
6.00
kilograms (kg)
— Formula International express volumetric weight (kg) = L×W×H (cm) ÷ 5000
Domestic express volumetric weight (kg) = L×W×H (cm) ÷ 6000
Billing rule: the greater of actual weight and volumetric weight applies; fractions of 1 kg are rounded up (e.g., 3.3 kg → 4 kg, 28.8 kg → 29 kg).

Chargeable weight is the basis of freight calculation — the greater of "actual gross weight" and "volumetric weight" determines what you pay.

CBM Formula

CBM = Length(m) × Width(m) × Height(m)

Example: 100cm × 80cm × 60cm = 1m × 0.8m × 0.6m = 0.48 CBM

Air Freight Chargeable Weight Formula

Volumetric weight = L(cm) × W(cm) × H(cm) ÷ 6000

Example: 100 × 80 × 60 ÷ 6000 = 80 kg (volumetric weight)

The greater of actual gross weight and volumetric weight is the chargeable weight

Standard Container Capacity Reference

  • 20 ft container (20GP): approx. 28 CBM, max payload 21.5 metric tons
  • 40 ft container (40GP): approx. 58 CBM, max payload 26 metric tons
  • 40 ft high cube (40HQ): approx. 67 CBM, max payload 26 metric tons
